 Things We Could Improve 

    While recording we have had many thing we could have improved on. One thing I think we could have done better in the production process is time management. I think we took to long to start recording and it hurt us. If we would have managed our time better I believe our result would have been much better. 

CCR preparations

 CCR Preparation

    Preparing for my CCR I am still planning on doing my talk show with myself idea. An idea I am considering doing for my second video is a YouTube reaction video, where the questions pop up and I just answer them in a common YouTube video style. 

    For my talk show idea I would use the same camera that is being used to record the movie intro, which is thew Nikon Z30. If I end up doing my YouTube video idea I would use a Logitech webcam and OBS to screen record the questions.

 Production Day 2 Preparations

    Preparing for day 2 of production we are making sure we are ready. As stated in previous blog posts our plan is too record during class on Monday. To make sure we are ready we need to make sure since I am the main actor, that I am wearing the same clothing I wore on day one since it takes place in the same day. 

    For the equipment we need to make sure to have camera fully charged and make sure we have our SD card. Another thing we are going to focus on is the characters love for music, so when the character feels alone in school he would put on headphones since music helps relax him. 

 What’s Next?

What’s next? For out project we are looking to find time during our school schedule to record the at school scenes. I’m going to be in Orlando during spring break so Yoav volunteered to edit the at home scenes while I’m out. I’m also thinking about ideas for my CCR. One of the ideas I have is a talk show where I talk to my self. In editing I would split the screen so there is two me on screen, one asking questions and one answering.

Set

 Set Design 

 For the set design we had to make it seem like the kid had just moved into the house so we used different things to make it look like that. First thing we went to the guest room at my house and moved the thing we didn’t want the audience to see to a wall that wouldn’t be in the shot. We then grabbed boxes and layer them around the room to make it seem like he hasn’t unpacked. Then we only showed he has unpacked the important things to him like a record player, a flag from his country of origin, and a pair of shoes.

Production day 1

 First Day Production 

    Even though on a previous blog I mentioned that our plan was to start recording on Monday 3/13, but to to some delays we were only able to start recording on Tuesday 3/14. 

Why didn’t we record Monday?

    Our original plan was splitting up our recording process into two days, a Monday and a Tuesday. We were going to record the in school scenes of our project on Monday and the outside of school scenes on Tuesday. When we arrived in school on Monday in class we reviewed our media context essay, and where no able to record.

What we recorded 

    We recorded the at home scenes. To summarize it is when the new boy gets home and just goes to his room and lays in bed.

Production locations

 Where are we Going to Record? 

    For production we have decided that we have to record in two different locations. We are going to be recording in school and at my house. 

School Scenes 

    For the school scenes me and Yoav are going to discuss in class where exactly we are going to record which scenes. One place we will for sure record at is the courtyard due to it being crowded for lunch we can create a more realistic school environment compared to empty hallways. 

At Home

    For the  Scenes at my house we are going to record in my guest room due to it being the most empty room in my house. But since I can not completely empty the room we will only record half of the room and move everything we can't take out to the other side of the room. Me and Yoav will also bring out a couple of boxes to give the feeling they just moved in. 

Characters

 The Main Character 

    During Class Thursday 3/9 me and Yoav decided on some details that will make up our main character. We discussed who will play our character, the character is going to be played by myself. Due to the  character being played by myself we have decided that the country of origin of our character is going to be from Honduras just like myself. When I play the character I really wanna capture feelings that I personally felt when I was moving. 

Schedule

Production Schedule

    Me and Yoav are looking into starting to record this week. Since our story is about a kid trying to fit in we have to record both in school and at home. We are planning on recording the school scenes Monday 3/13 during class while the courtyard is crowded due to students being out for lunch. We need a crowded environment for school because with this we show how our main character walking alone while everyone in the background talks or possibly sitting alone to eat lunch. 

    For the at home scenes we are planning on recoding Tuesday 3/14. Our original plan was to record after school Monday but I have to record a volleyball game for CBTV. We also have to get our recording in before Wednesday 3/15 due to Yoav leaving for an AMT competition. At the home scenes we are planning on recording in a somewhat empty room and only show half of the room to give it the feeling it is empty due to the family just moving in.

    

 Genre

    Me and Yoav have been discussing into what genre the story of the new kid would fall into drama and coming of age.

Coming of Age

    Coming of age is mostly common in stories focusing around a teenagers life. This genre is mostly describes as telling the story of someone making the shift from childhood to adulthood. Our story would be coming of age due to our main character trying to find his way to fit into the new place he just moved to.

Drama

    Drama is the other genre our story would fall into because our story because it would focus the boys feeling and the problems he is having with himself.

Production 

    So far me and Yoav are still thinking on how to make our movie intro to make and effective story intro for the story we are trying to tell. 

Plans   

    Me and Yoav have to storyboarding this week to hopefully be able to start recording this weekend. The plan is to record in around three days. For now we have to find people we can cast for our movie intro 

Equipment

    On Monday of this week it was my birthday and due to me wanting to go into the film or Tv industry I got a camera for my birthday, more specifically the Nikon Z30. The camera also had a RODE Mic we can use to capture noise and dialogue in our film. Me and Yoav are also planning on having foley noises to make our scenes better. 

The Story choice

The New Kid 

    In class I talked to Ms.Stoklosa and we discussed an idea Yoav came up with. The story is about a kid who has just moved to a new country and he is trying to find his place and fit in. 

    The goal of our film intro is not to be cheesy but have symbolic representation that the kid is new. To represent that the kid is new to the place show him in his new school getting lost, or show how all the other kids are talking to their friends but he can’t talk to others since he is new and had no friends. Another way to show he is new is once he is home maybe show how he can’t find a light switch or how he is bored due to not knowing what he can do for entertainment in this new place. Another thing to show that the family is new is showing empty rooms with unpacked boxes. In the room of the kid show the unpacked boxes but show how he has only unpacked the things that are important to him and tell us about the character more.    

    Ms. Stoklosa gave me an example I could watch to give me an idea on how I could implement all these elements, the name of the movie is “The Florida Project.”

 

 The reason Ms.Stoklosa recommended to watch the Florida project is because it will help us develop an idea on how to properly execute symbolic representations like the ones we are trying to represent in our story.

Now that me and Yoav have an idea on what we are going to do we are going to start planning our production for our film entry starting with the storyboard and casting.
