Genre research activity

 

1. Choose a genre or sub-genre within the film  world.  Conduct research about the genre.  Some subjects you should explore are: Horror 
   1. Typical target audience of the genre- late teens to young adults 
   2. Genre conventions – both within content and production techniques-  Horror uses unusual angles and an unsettling feel to cause discomfort with the viewer
   3. Institutional conventions – narrative image, marketing, etc.- Horror is usually marketed as dark or gloomy to create a creepy feel.

2. Create a database entry following the same format as the sample below.  Your database entry must include the following sections:
   1. Genre-action
   2. Genre conventions – content- There is usually a hero and villain arc so the viewer watches all the way through for a satisfying conclusion
   3. Genre conventions – production techniques- Action movies usually have a lot of intense parts to keep the viewers attention  
   4. Institutional conventions –  how is genre marketed- Action movies are marketed with bright colors to grab attention 
   5. Film sample #1 – include analysis of how this film embodies your genre- The Avengers movies. They are all action packed and use techniques to keep viewers attentions
   6. Film sample #2 – include analysis of how this film embodies your genre- The Ghostbuster movies. All have action sequences to maintain attention
